In Part I of our article, we discussed the most popular
treatments for yeast infection. Below you will find several
more home cures that are also fairly common. You may have to
try a couple of methods until you find the one that works for
you.
But, oh, when you do find it - what relief!

Sitz Bath - Very simple but
soothing. Fill a tub with warm water until about waist high.
Add approximately a cup of salt and a 1 cup of apple cider
vinegar to the water. Just sit in the water with your legs
apart until the water becomes cool.
Cranberries - Cranberries are
often used to cure urinary tract infections and the same
principal may apply to yeast infections. Cranberries lower the
pH of your urine which is said to have a beneficial effect as
it travels over an infected vagina as the acidity can kill
"bad" bacteria.
You can either drink cranberry juice (unsweetened - which
may be hard to find) or buy cranberry pills/extract at the
natural foods store.
Apple Cider Vinegar - Washing
or douching with a diluted solution of vinegar may help restore
the vagina's balance. Mix about 1 tablespoon of apple cider
vinegar with a quart of water. Some people also let a clove of
garlic sit in this solution before using. Rub the diluted
solution directly over the affected area or use the solution as
a douche.
Tea Tree Oil - This yeast
infection home remedy is a little more controversial. But two
things that everyone appears to agree on: don't use it at full
strength and do not take it internally!
Tea tree oil can cause a stinging sensation and irritation.
Needless to say, if you decide to use this method and
experience either of those symptoms, discontinue its use.
Tea tree oil is commonly diluted with K-Y jelly or even
olive oil. Using an applicator tampon is a popular method of
applying the tea tree oil so it doesn't touch sensitive skin.
You push the tampon out of the applicator and apply K-Y jelly
or olive oil on the tampon (so the oil doesn't get absorbed
into the tampon). Then apply a few drops of the diluted tea
tree oil. Push the tampon back into the applicator and push it
out again once it is in the vagina.
A safer yeast infection home remedy may be to use Tea tree
oil vaginal supplements which are available at some health food
stores.
Note, however, is probably best to consult with your doctor
before trying this type of yeast infection home treatment.
Honey - Honey is also
frequently mentioned as a home treatment. Simply apply the
honey to the affected area and let is sit for 15-20 minutes.
Rinse it off with warm water.
I can't say I have ever tried this method but it seems like
it would be a bit messy and sticky. But if you're still looking
for an effective treatment, you might as well give this one a
try.
Whichever yeast infection home remedy you decide to try, I hope
it works for you.
